Environmental Policy Statement

Mainland Construction Group undertakes activities in building contracting, civil engineering contracting and plant hire sectors of the construction industry. It is recognised that its operations may affect the environment and requires environmental management to be an integral part of its business. This policy will be applied across the whole company.
The requirements and duties of employees are documented in the company procedures, to provide guidance to the varying levels of responsibility and action within the company. Responsibility for the discharge of duties within the company management system rests with management.

In pursuance of these objectives the company will:

1. Comply with environmental legislation, consents, licences, codes of practice and the company management system.
2. Plan and manage construction activities to minimise their environmental impact.
3. Fulfil environmental performance by sustainable procurement and educating or disciplining as required.
4. Manage and minimise waste, maximise recycling and reuse and use secondary materials where appropriate.
5. Mitigate the risk of pollution by control of noise, contamination, discharges and emissions.
6. Utilise resources efficiently and aim for sustainable construction methods and materials wherever practical.
7. Communicate environmental information to appropriate interested parties.
8. Learn from incidents that may have occurred such that future environmental incidents are minimised.
9. Monitor and review environmental performance in order to achieve continuous improvement.
10. Provide resources to manage and maintain certification to ISO 14001.
11. Encourage employees to contribute to improvements in environmental performance.
12. Communicate this policy to employees and display it at all company establishments, on the company web site and to the public on request.
